UHA is Supporting the Hawaiian Humane Society and the Health of Your Pet

UHA Health Will Donate to Hawaiian Humane Society for
Every Application for Pet Insurance Through Its Web Site

Honolulu, HI (July 13, 2018) – Protecting your pet with insurance can now help the Hawaiian Humane Society.

For each application for pet insurance submitted through its web site, UHA Health Insurance will donate $40 to the Hawaiian Humane Society.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, studies have shown that the overall health benefits of pet ownership include reductions in blood pressure, cholesterol levels and feelings of loneliness.

“Pets can improve fitness levels, lower stress and increase our overall happiness in general,” explains Howard Lee, president and CEO of UHA. “Because the health benefits of pet ownership are so clear, we feel that support of the Hawaiian Humane Society – which cares for more than 20,000 animals each year – is very much aligned with our goals for increased community health.”

“We are grateful to UHA for recognizing the amazing health benefits of animal companionship,” said Lisa Fowler, president and CEO of the Hawaiian Humane Society. “Pets are important members of our families and health pet insurance is a valuable resource to ensure they will always have the veterinary care they need.”

Pets Best will offer the pet insurance, which reimburses up to 90 percent of veterinary bills. It is not a UHA plan benefit, but Pets Best was selected as UHA’s partner because of its experience and longevity in the industry; the company currently insures 100,000 pets across the U.S. Pet insurance offered and administered by Pets Best Insurance Services, LLC is underwritten by American Pet Insurance Company (APIC).

The application may be found at uhahealth.com/pets. Applications may also be submitted by phone at 888.984.8700; applicants should note the referral code UHAHEALTH when applying by phone.

About Hawaiian Humane Society
The Hawaiian Humane Society is an education and advocacy organization that shelters, protects, rescues, reunites and rehomes animals. It is O‘ahu’s only open-admission shelter that welcomes all animals. Established in 1883, this non-profit organization is not a chapter of any group as there is no national humane society. Visit hawaiianhumane.org to learn more.

About UHA Health Insurance (University Health Alliance)UHA was founded as University Health Alliance in 1996 by a group of physician faculty at University of Hawai‘i John A. Burns School of Medicine. UHA provides medical, drug and vision plans to more than 4,600 Hawai‘i employer groups and nearly 62,000 members. As the only health plan in Hawai‘i founded by physicians, it was the first to offer preventive and wellness care focused health plans in the state, and now offers one of the largest physician and provider networks in Hawai‘i. By meeting strict quality standards to ensure clinically sound decision-making that respects the rights of patients and medical providers, UHA received accreditation in Health Utilization Management through URAC, the independent non-profit that promotes healthcare quality.
