UHA Health Insurance Promotes Suzanne Eugenio to Director of Marketing as Part of Transition with Retirement of Linda Kalahiki on January 1
Honolulu, HI (Oct. 1, 2020) – Suzanne Eugenio has been promoted to director of marketing at UHA Health Insurance. She had served as marketing services manager since 2014.
Ms. Eugenio’s elevation, which took place on Sept. 1, is part of a long-planned transition with the Jan. 1, 2021 retirement of Linda Kalahiki, senior vice president and chief marketing officer.
As director of marketing, Ms. Eugenio now oversees both the Marketing and Workplace Wellness Departments. She is responsible for all aspects of marketing and communications, including strategy, advertising, branding and media relations, as well as outreach for workplace wellness and the Hawai‘i Health at Work Alliance, a UHA Health Insurance subsidiary.
Ms. Eugenio received a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. She graduated from the Patsy T. Mink Leadership Alliance as part of its third annual cohort in 2019. The active community volunteer currently serves on the Board of Directors for Navian Hawai‘i.
Ms. Kalahiki helped launch UHA Health Insurance in 1996 while working with UHA founder, Dr. Max Botticelli, as an executive assistant at the non-profit University of Hawai‘i John A. Burns School of Medicine faculty practice plan, then known as University Health Care Associates. She still remembers when the legendary Botticelli, chair of the faculty practice plan, shared his vision of a different kind of health insurance company and asked her to join.
“Linda’s contributions to UHA Health Insurance over her 25 years cannot be overemphasized,” said Howard Lee, UHA president and chief executive officer. “She is the last of our founders – here from before the beginning – so her retirement is like the passing of an era. She helped create this organization, and UHA is really part of her legacy.”
Ms. Kalahiki shared, “I am happy to leave the Marketing and Workplace Wellness Departments in Suzanne’s capable care. I am confident that she will continue to make valuable contributions to UHA Health Insurance’s success moving forward.”
In retirement, Ms. Kalahiki plans to spend more time with her family and in ministry with Elevate Community Church.

It continues to be physician led and now offers the largest physician network in Hawai‘i. By meeting strict quality standards to ensure clinically sound decision-making that respects the rights of patients and medical providers, UHA received accreditation in Health Utilization Management through URAC, the independent non-profit that promotes healthcare quality.
