We at UHA are focused on the immediate healthcare needs of our members and employer groups impacted by the wildfires on Maui.

UHA is working to minimize any healthcare disruptions to our affected members on Maui by taking a number of steps to offer assistance with:
- Prescription Refills
- Until further notice, UHA and Express Scripts have relaxed restrictions around early refills to ensure members impacted by the wildfires have access to their medications.
- If you are having a problem with filling your prescriptions or need further assistance, please contact one of our UHA customer service representatives at (808) 532-4000 or toll-free at 1 (800) 458-4600.
- Until further notice, UHA and Express Scripts have relaxed restrictions around early refills to ensure members impacted by the wildfires have access to their medications.
- Prior Authorization
- Until further notice, UHA has relaxed Prior Authorization Review Requirements on Durable Medical Equipment (DME), i.e.- continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps & supplies, and wheelchairs.
- UHA is expediting reviews of all other Prior Authorization types, if care is urgent.
- Access to Care
- UHA has mobilized our care specialists – our registered nurses and healthcare navigator – to connect with our most vulnerable members. For personal assistance please contact UHA at (808) 532-4000 or toll-free at 1 (800) 458-4600.
- Members on Maui with scheduled procedures are encouraged to contact us for assistance with care coordination.
- Travel associated with medical care will be based on UHA’s regular plan benefits. If care is not available on a member’s home island, please contact us for personal assistance.
Important information for our affected employer groups:
- Premium Payment Grace Period
- UHA will temporarily extend premium payment grace periods to 60 days for businesses heavily impacted by the wildfires. Example: August 2023 premiums normally due August 1 may be paid by September 30.

- Continuation of Health Coverage
- UHA will maintain coverage for members for up to two months for employers heavily impacted by the wildfires and who want to pay their employee’s premiums. Please email [email protected] by August 31, 2023 to continue coverage for employees who do not meet the 20-hour eligibility requirement per the Hawaii Prepaid Healthcare Act.
UHA will continue to work closely with our health partners and community to better understand how we can support our members and employer groups with additional resources and services.
